.My computer came with the adobe reader version 5,I have
since upgraded to ver. 6 both have given me zero troubles.

When you go to Adobe's download website, it will ask you questions
about your computer. After answering them, the version you need to download
will be displayed.

The OP asked about Adobe Acrobat, which is not downloadable from Adobe's
web site. Adobe Reader is the "free" reader which is downloadable.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Any version of Adobe Acrobat later than 5.05 will work with Windows XP Hone
and Office XP. If you have version 5, install it and when you start Acrobat,
it should check for updates and update. If not use Help, Update to update
to a version compatible with Windows XP and Office XP. If you buy Acrobat
the latest version is 6.0.1. Again installing version 6.0 with update to the
latest version.

Adobe Acrobat updates will not cross version boundaries. That is you cannot
update a version 5 to 6 except by purchasing version 6.
