Adobe Acrobat 6 Needs Messenger to Run!

I now run MSN Messenger. So I decided to uninstall WinXP Messenger
completely with:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

I then downloaded and installed Adobe Acrobat Reader 6. The first time I ran
Acrobat Reader, Windows brings up a "windows installer" pop up and begins an
automatic install of WinXP Messenger 5. I immediately ran the Messenger
uninstall, and tried to run Acrobat Reader, but again Windows forces an
automatic install of Messenger 5.

I looked at all the preferrences inside Acrobat Reader and found only this
"Show messeges and atuomatically update". I turned it OFF, but the damn
thing still runs the Messenger 5 install!

There are others with this problem. Found them at

Greetings M,

The reason you're seeing this is because Adobe Acrobat uses the Windows Installer. When an
application that was installed using the Windows Installer is run, the Windows Installer will
'check' the applications presently installed -- if it finds something "wrong", it reinstalls
it, in this case, Windows Messenger 5.

To stop this you can use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

First, download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/office2000pro/util20/1/NT4/EN-US/msicuu.exe

Run and install the program after you've downloaded it. After the setup is complete, click
Start, then Programs (All Programs if you're using XP), then Windows Install Clean Up.

Click Windows Messenger 5.0 and then click 'Remove'. Click 'OK' to the warning message that
comes up. Then this should no longer happen.
