ado upgrade or dao

I have been assigned a new project in MS access 2003. Question is this?

I know that the new access 2005 will support a newer version of DAO while
still being compatible with the older DAO. Is 'classic' ADO dead or will
there be upgrades and fixes to 'classic' ado in the future? For my purpose,
I like the use of disconnected recordsets that ADO has to offer among some
other things like the MSSHAPE data object, but am unsure of microsoft's
future for classic 'ADO.' Any words or thoughts on this.... ?

ADO isn't going anywhere. It is the preferred method of accessing non-Jet
databases. It is also the primary tool used by non-Access front ends to
access Jet tables.

Access 2005? When will be released this year? I've heard next MS
Office/Access is 2006. Is MS working on newer version of DAO? not heard
either.

ADO is newer than DAO, not the other way around. However, for Jet DB, DAO
may perform better than ADO in certain area.

If you are not planning to move on to MS's .NET bandwagon, then ADO and/or
DAO are fine. For .NET platform, you use ADO.NET (no link to classical ADO
at all, other than the three characters "ADO"), which is entirely different
from ADO/DAO.

Access 12 is currently in Beta, and will likely be released late in 2006
(Office 2003 was released in October, and I believe Office 12 will be
release around then as well). Yes, it has a new database engine (as of yet
unnamed) that's an extension of DAO.

While ADO may be newer than DAO, AFAIK it has been replaced by ADO.Net,
which, as you point out, is nothing like ADO.

(The stuff about the new Database Engine is at
