when in native mode, can i still use windows 98 for clients and windows nt 4
for member servers?

Sure you can. Domain mode is just based on whether you have NT4 BDCs left
over. Has nothing to do with the clients. Just remember to install the
DSClient software on them so they can participate in searches and DFS with
AD (if you need that feature, but recommended).

And good idea with the DSClient software. Just a note on that: you can
still download the WINNT 4.0 version of the software ( to have the latest
and greatest ) but you need to get the WIN9x version off of the WIN2000
Server CD ( ie, it is no longer available for download ).
