I am having a problem when using the ADMT to migrate a
computer to AD. At the end of the migration wizard, when
it tries to install the migration agent on the target pc;
I get and error that it can't connect to the
\\<computername>\admin$ share on the target pc. There is
also an error that the RPC server is unavailable.

These are XP pro pc's. I am able to ping by name the
server-to-workstation and vice versa. There are some non-
administrative shares on this target PC, and I can get to
them from the RUN command on the server.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The problem seems to be I can't connect to the
administrative share on the target pc. I used the dir
and netuse commands to test this.

I can ping the target pc by name

Hi, I had the same problem during my migration, and the problem is caused by
NOT having DNS resolution for you new WIndows 2000 Active Directory. More
precisely, your workstations do not have the dns server configured through
dhcp or static configs for the dns server that can provide the location of
the win2000 svr records. All you have to do is configure your DHCP server
to hand out theDNS server, and the domain name BEFORE you run the migration
tool.

This should solve your problem. Good Luck,

Roger
