i have no access to administrator account. I have started in safe mode and
there are no tabs for changing account type the only account that shows up is
my own that is limited. I cant find administrator account. Can anyone help me.

Are you sure you don't have admin rights? As far as I understand, only
users with admin rights are able to start in safe mode.
If you are able to start in safe mode, and your name is listed, then you
have admin rights. However, this should not be confused with the built-in
administrator account, your account is a User Account with administrative
privileges.
To verify your standings, go to control panel>user accounts>and look on your
name icon to see what rights you have. Also, from that same screen turn off
the welcome screen, then go back to safe mode to see if more than one
account is listed.

in control panel where do i turn off welcome window. I forgot how I got
there earlier today. Greatly appreciate the help. thanks bunches

i dont have that option. all mine has in user accounts is add password or
change picture. all other options tells you that administrator is needed..
thanks .

Are you the only user of this computer?
Is your OS xp Home or Pro?
What does your account description say? It will be located under your name
& icon in User Accounts.
Have you never had Admin rights, or is this something new?

My son and husband use the computer and I asked both of them if they had
changed password and they hadn't. I am using home version of xp. I did have
administrator priveleges at one time. I was thinking maybe I have aquired a
worm or something cause I can not download or save anything to registry
either. so I may just have computer "cleaned" by a pro. I have saved pics
and stuff. Thanks so much. any other ideas will be greatly appreciated..
Thanks bunches. God bless.

No there is just my account that has limited and there are no other choices
anywhere in there to chang accounts all i can do is make my limited account a
password protected or change my picture. i cant install programs or
anything. thanks so much.

That's strange. When WinXP is installed it creates an Administrator
account, and I don't think it can be deleted. If you are running Home
instead of Pro, that might be different. When you start in Safe Mode, it
"should" list your account and Administrator.

Anyway, try holding down Shift, then right-click on User Accounts in Control
Panel. Select 'Ran As.." and select "The following user" and choose
Administrator. Leave the password blank, and pray. With luck, you should
be able to get in and make your changes.

Good luck.

I don't quite get why you asked them if they had changes the password, that
has nothing to do with your account being changed.
I should have asked if yours is the only account on the computer. If your
husband has his own user account, and he has admin rights, you can change
yours to an admin type account from within his user account.

See if this works, if head hunters doesn't.
click start>click run and type the following exactly how I typed it., then
hit enter.
control userpasswords2
If you see anything that has admin, post back with details.
From within there you can not only assign passwords, but change rights.

I saw that you wrote about accessing XP home's administrator
account in safe mode. I couldn't access "Install/Uninstall
Hardware" in the Control Panel when logged in as myself with
administrator privileges so I chose Safe Mode and logged in as
Administrator. However, even when in safe mode and after logging on
as administrator, I still didn't have any administrator rights. Do
you know why I get this message?

What/whom are you replying to?
