I recently had a power cut as I was using Outlook express and it has
resulted in Outlook express being corrupted.I tried to do an XP repair
install today
but it kept asking for the admin password.I don't have a notion what it is
and the shop where I purchased the pc has closed down.Any help greatly
appreciated.I tried reloading Explorer but this didn't help.I can receive
emails but cannot reply or create new messages.

if your XP was pre-installed then it's 99.99% certain that the password is
blank.

Rifleman, I just suffered through the same problem tonight. By editing my
registry (DON'T DO THAT DON'T DO THAT DON'T DO THAT--my personal mantra that
I violate on the rare occasion which always ends up in tears!). All fonts on
my system became dingbats. Not to fret, I thought, just stick the CD in and
I remembered from reading this group to press R so I could restore. Then
came the dreaded question re the password. Hitting enter repeatedly did
nothing but scroll the screen down. I do not have a password set. So
(finally) the question--(sorry for the preamble but I was terrified I lost
my data. Managed to restore using Drive Image by having a friend tell me
which button to press--I can't read Dingbat) what do you do if it is blank?
What do you press to carry on?

Don't type anything in the box, just hit return.
