Hi.
We're on a network and all the pcs only have one user and therefore I am
administrator of all.
One pc now won't let me access stuff. When I try and go into Windows
defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying
"contact Administrator". ??
Can't access folder options either.

There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite
having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the
virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have
any access to security files.

Any advice?
Jen

Do the following and then report back

Download, install, run, update and perform a full scan (separately) with the
following two applications (freeware versions are the ones to use for this):

SuperAntiSpyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/ Run it in both Safe and in Normal mode

MalwareBytes
http://www.malwarebytes.com/ Run this in Normal mode ONLY not in Safe mode

After performing a full scan with one and then the other and removing
whatever they both find completely, you may uninstall these products,
if you wish.

Download and run the MSRT manually:

Thank you Peter
I'm afraid when I try and install them a window says 'Windows installer has
stopped working'
How can I get round this?

Hi Jen, you might be able to attack it with a Linux based CD.
I`ve just today, D/loaded the latest version of F-Secures latest
rescue CD for use.
It comes as an ISO file and you burn it to a CD yourself.
Have you got a machine that can burn ISO files to CD ??.

yep I do

Ok I managed to restore to an earlier point. It only gave me one choice.
Anyhow that enabled me to install the 2 software Peter you suggested and
YAY! running sooooooooooo much better and McAfee not popping up.
A bit annoying that I got more out of free software than I did out of 50 odd
pounds of Antivirus security PLUS when I tried to get help online, was told
I had to pay a sum for their Virus Removal section to deal with it!!! Not
good.

Thank you for your help
