I am the sole user of this computer and am named as the administrator.
However I am unable to download any free programmes from the internet because
I am denied access as not having the right status. This does not happen with
the Microsoft site as I get all the automatic updates and have just
downloaded Windows Defender with any problems. I searched for answers but was
told I would have to reboot in Safe Mode to get over this but I cannot
believe that I need to do this everytime I am on the internet and want to try
out a freebee

Can anyone suggest answers which don't involve altering the registry

If you cannot download from arbitrary websites it is probably your browser
settings which are too restrictive. Try using the trusted sites zone for
your websites as opposed to the internet zone. You are apparently using IE
but you can also try another browser and see if that helps.

It might also be that Content Advisor has been turned on. Since content tags
are very rarely included in websites, this effectively blocks everything!

HST, you might find an all-round better solution at http://mozilla.com

Thanks for the advice but the use of Trusted Sites would surely mean having
to type in every internet site I use?

The Content Advisor is turned off so this isn't the problem and I can't
download Mozilla because of the same problem of authorisation
