I'm a newby, novice, and confused. My W2000 Professional
has suddenly begun refusing me access to some portions of
the computer/software - I can't access "Add/Remove
Programs", "My Computer/Properties", "Network
Places", "Tweak UI", etc. I get a RESTRICTIONS message on
the screen "This operation has been cancelled due to
restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact
your system administrator". I am the system
administrator, and logon has been automatic (I am the only
user). The system just suddenly started doing this; it
has worked properly for months since it was set-up by my
son and given to me. I DO NOT know how to fix it. Can
anyone help, please.

Ray,

I am no expert but I may have a solution for you. On start
up hit the F5 key. This will bring up a window asking if
you want to boot up in safe mode, normal mode, etc. One of
the options will be to boot up at the last known good
configuration. Try that. Last week I defragged using a
membership other than Administrator and had all sorts of
problems. The last known good configuration fixed me screw
up.

John:

I found that somehow the I-Worm/Swen had gotten past my
antivirus software and had infected both HD's (dual-boot
config.). It took some doing but I was able to remove the
virus/worm and repair the damage it did. Of course I
replaced the antivirus software before I did anything
else. Thanks for your input.
