administrator has Word--users don't

After seeing the warning about not running my computer as
an Administrator, I set up a user account for "m". The
problem is that m's start menu is missing two programs,
Word and a Canon program, that the Administrator account
can access. How can I get these two missing programs to
be available to m's user account?

Create shortcuts of the two programs in the \m\start menu\programs
folder under the new user name.

Create shortcuts of the two programs in the \m\start menu\programs
folder - or - into \all users\start menu\programs. If you just
want them in the start list and not the program list, then just
place the short cuts into the "start menu" folder.

full path: C:\Document and Settings\m\start menu\programs.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the response.

GoBack allowed me to start fresh on this question.

Started fresh and created "administrator z" and (user
account)"m". Neither account has Word on the start
menu. Tried the full path you suggested, using Windows
Explorer, but Word is not there. And as an added bonus,
XP won't let me access XP's original "Administrator"
account where Word behaves as expected.

GoBack saved the day again, and I'm back to running my
machine as Administrator, and using Windows fine.

Perhaps the problem is that my old version of Word 97 is
not compatible with XL?

Have you tried the File and Settings Transfer Wizard ?

Hi,

It sounds like your are now using the MS original administrator's profile/account.
Generally, this is not recommended. This account is kind of an emergency
account that users can use if they somehow lose their own accounts to get into
the computer. You will be better off creating your own administrators account.
When you do, the MS original will be removed and preserved. If you want to
get Word where it belongs, you need to find where it's located. One way you can do
this is to use your search tool and search for Word. When you find the program,
you will see the path where it is located. At that point, you copy it as a short-cut
and place it in one of the folders I posted to you in my last post. It will
show up then. If you get stuck, please feel free to post again, but, I don't
recommend that you continue to use the original Admin account, if indeed that
is what you are using. In a way, there are two kinds Admin accounts, the one
that MS provides as a starting point, and the ones you will create, which
is what I recommend.

BTW, in my first post, I didn't say you would find Word in any of the
folders I mentioned. I said you needed to place a Word short-cut in one
of those folders. From your post, I can't tell for sure which admin. account
you are using, but again, it should be one that you created under Control Panel,
User profiles (at the bottom).
