Hi,

I have a laptop with xp sp2 and I have no permissions to perform admin tasks
while logged on as an administrator. I can edit the registry and was
wondering if there is a registry fix for this??? thanks in advance.
Bill

Look, there are some malwares (junk stuff) that can do such things-disables
some Administrator rights.
You say you can add the registry,so you are probably a victim f such junk.
So check if you are a victim of them

You need
1.An antivirus software (updated definitios and current version)
2.SpyBot Search and Destroy (updated definitios and current version )

I suppose you can access the internet,so download the trial version of
F-prot Antivirus 3.16c (+ its definitions) and SpyBot S & D (+ definition)

http://www.safer-networking.org/microsoft.en.html
(get the exe file ,version 1.4 , and the newest definitions )

and
http://www.f-prot.com/download/home_user/
(from here get the Windows version and the 2 definition files that are at
the end of page)

When you have downloaded them, copy and paste them in the Shared folder that
is in My Computer

Then restart with booting in Safe Mode

Do this by repeatedly typing F8 while Windows is starting before
Windows logo appears.
Then you'll open the BIOS menu where you can choose to boot
the hard drive in SAFE MODE

(If you are XP user ,find more about Safe Mode
in Help and Support Center ; Start-Help and Suport)

When you are in Safe Mode, access the hidden built-in Administartor account
and

install SpyBot S&D + its definitions
restart and boot in Safe Mode again

install F-prot AV and unzip the definitions in its folder
C:\Program files\FSI\F-prot
restart with booting in Safe Mode

Scan with F-prot and with SpyBot
Remove all the junk found.
Boot in Normal mode and most of the things should be OK
--------------
If nothing bad is found by F-prot or SpyBot S&D ,
you may try repair install of your Windows XP Home or full re-install
If you do not know how, please take your computer to a professional store
where IT specialist will help you
(Before that, create a back-up of all your data needed)

Good luck !

Sorry,I forgot to say that

You have to disable/enable System Restore
AFTER the system is clean of all kind of malware because malware will be
in Restore Points.
Check Turn off system restore.Click OK
Make sure the PC is clean of malware !!!
Uncheck Turn off system restore ,so you'll have your Restore function ON.

I found the problem, The permissions on the c drive were changed and the
