On an administrator's account, a friend installed IrfanView (a freeware
graphic viewer/editor). It works fine in this account and opens and edits
graphic files.

In a non-admin account however, there are times when the user gets an error
message to say that there is 'no record of that file extension in the
registry'. He can open files with IrfanView because he right clicked on one
and chose 'Open With' 'Always open files of this type..'

It seems that the program is installed only in the admin account. How can he
make that program available to all other users of the PC (it is not
networked)

Hi Evi,

It's a problem with older software - it needs to be installed under each
user account. For the limited users, after logging on, right-click the setup
file and use "run as", then enter an admin username and password. The fact
that the program runs otherwise is a good indication that the proper
permissions on the program folder are there otherwise, so installing it is
all you should need to do.
