Are we assuming you have Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 installed and all
the latest patches up until today?
Are we assuming this "admin account" you have does not have the username of
"administrator"?
(Follows with the first assumption, if the first assumption is false,
however - the second may still be true.)

Give us some more information on your system, please.

You left out what version of Windows you are using. AFAIK, you must be
in Safe Mode to log into the built-in Administrator account in XP Home.

If you have XP Pro, please quote the exact text of the error message and
tell us what "another login pops up" means. The login for another user
on the system?

IF I might ask...
when Users list (in WXP) is displayed, hitting Ctrl/Alt/Del twice will allow
access to administrator login?
I ask because I was creating (limited) user accounts for my family, and a
second (admin) account for myself. Now I can't retreive any of the work /
files / etc. that I created under original (default) admin login. HELP.

I believe that you are reffering to a profile issue. Every created user has
his own profile, under documents and settings. It is possible to copy
profiles, bu tI need to know if this is what you are actually referring to.

My issue was that I didn't realize when I created a 2nd admin account, that
the default admin would 'disappear' from the users list on start-up. When I
learned that Ctrl/Alt/Del x2 would permit access to the admin account, I was
OK; except that I now have a huge load of files to deal with that are admin
accessible only, and need to be moved elsewhere to be accessible by my 2nd
admin account. (whew)

I don't suppose there's a way for all admin level users to share files /
favorites / etc., without allowing limited user access?

Thnx
