administrator account lost

I have bought a compaq notebook a few months ago. Since
the notebook come together with Window XP home edition,
the salemsman help me to setup my username. All this
while I log in my computer only using my own username.
Recently I try to update my office online but I as prompt
that I need to log in as administrator before I was allow
to do any update. The problem is I log off my PC but
there is only one user name, but no other user even the
administartor. I my OS corrupted? or the OS which come
together with new PC do not have administrator as user?
What should I do?

Hi Lee,

In WinXP Home, the default administrator is only available as a logon in
Safe mode. You cannot access it in normal mode. This should not be an issue
as long as your normal logon is part of the admin group (allows you full
control of the system).

I my case do you mean it is ok if I update my office in
safe mode, under administrator?
