Hoping someone can help....while reviewing the security
options with IE (internet tools>options) I must have
disabled myself as I can no longer access the Internet
Options menu from within IE itself. I get the error to
contact my system administrator.....but I AM the system
administrator. So am I logged in wrong or did I totally
mess something up? Same day this started the emergency
backup disk create utility stopped working as well.
connection?

any help would be appreciated and laughter is taken as
well.

I also have this problem. One of our users is
experiencing this problem but reported that he had
changed nothing. Anybody know how to fix this? It is
particularly annoying because you cannot change the
browser homepage when accessing the Internet Options from
the Control Panel whereas you can when going through IE.

Use Regedit.exe and search for NoBrowserOptions and remove it.
It is most likely to be here (but not necessarily)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Restrictions
If you are unfamiliar with Regedit, then ensure you know how to
restore your Registry in case of error and it is a good to export any
key before deleting.

Check the startup (Start-Run-MSCONFIG-Startup tab) for any unknown
items if it is reset on reboot.

You might try this snippet from Mike Burgess first if you use SpyBot:
'Did you by chance run SpyBot's Immunize feature?
If so, you can unlock by unchecking the option to "Protect IE Control
Panel" '

.

I just started getting the very same problem. If I go to
the Control Panel and select Network and Internet
Connections, I can't even change my home page - all the
buttons are greyed out. I am looking for a solution as
well...

Ben,
Did you by chance run SpyBot's Immunize feature?
"Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE (current user)"

Please start Spybot-S&D again in advanced mode (usually from the Start menu
group Spybot - Search &D Destroy, until you've already changed the desktop
icon to advanced mode), and go to the Immunize page.
There you'll see a group Recommended miscellaneous options. Untick the
checkboxes in front of both Lock IE... options. You may need to close all
Explorer windows, and maybe even restart Windows before these changes take
place.

If the above doesn't apply .....

There may be a Registry restriction in place?
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/UnlockNoBrowserOptions.reg
Download, right-click and select: Edit (to view in Notepad)
Right-click and select: Merge (to enter the info into the Registry)

[or]
Start | Run (type) "regedit" (no quotes)
Scroll down to the following location:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Restrictions]
"NoBrowserOptions"=dword:00000001

If the above entry exists: "NoBrowserOptions"
Click "Registry" (up top) select: "Export" (export = copy)
Enter a filename (hint) - NoBrowserOptions
Click Save, highlight the "NoBrowserOptions" entry in the right pane.
Right-click and select: Delete, close Regedit and reboot.
