We have XP Pro running on 7 computers in our lab at school which are used by
students. I have created a default desktop for all users and our security
program locks it down so it can't be changed. I copied this "perfect" desktop
to the "all users" and since I did that the Administrative Tools folder is
empty. Also, when I logon to the network as the administrator, when I click
Start-->All Programs, half of the programs are missing.

And when I sign on as one of the students, the desktop isn't organized like
the one that I created and put into All Users-->desktop.

Any information will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks.

That was the wrong thing to do. You can create a profile the way you like
it, then while logged on as another user with local administrative rights
Control Panel|System|User Profiles, select the profile you adjusted, Copy
To, Browse to
%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\Default User
Change "Permitted to use:" to "Everyone" OK

Thanks Dave. Will that get back all the programs that are missing from the
"All Programs" list and the tools?

No. You'll need to undo the damage manually. You'll likely need to recreate
the shortcuts.

Component Services
%SystemRoot%\system32\Com\comexp.msc

Computer Management
%SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc /s

Data Sources (ODBC)
%SystemRoot%\system32\odbcad32.exe

Event Viewer
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s

Local Security Policy
%SystemRoot%\system32\secpol.msc /s

Performance
%SystemRoot%\system32\perfmon.msc /s

Server Extensions Administrator
%programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\40\bin\FPMMC.MSC"

Services
%SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s

Telnet Server Administration
%SystemRoot%\system32\tlntadmn.exe

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Configuration
%SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\mscorcfg.msc

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Wizards
%SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\ConfigWizards.exe

(watch for line wrap)
