Any way to get the admin password out of an XP system.
Son got a computer given to him but admin password is not
known
Thanks
All you have to do is use a XP CD and boot from it (you may have to go
into the BIOS and set the CD
to boot first, if you can not, just download and make the 6 boot
floppies)and then "Hit Enter to Install" when it comes up, then F8 (to
agree), and
then you will see another repair option, do the repair option only. Let
it
go, and when it starts the first reboot, and you see the screen where it
says all new great things about XP.
Then hit "Shift + F10" and a
command prompt will show up in a DOS type window. Then type. " net user
administrator * " it
will then prompt you for a new password, put 123 and then ENTER and then
again. Well you could enter any new password, but I find the 123 easy to
remember, and then after everything, you can change it to something you
like.
Just leave the repair go, and let it finish the repair install (it will
still ask you for the key, and normal stuff like network settings, don't
worry, it will still have all the same settings as you left it, you will
have to thou, reinstall SP1. But that is better then reinstalling XP and
SP1 and setting all your work back to zero),
and when you are finished (it will end at the Welcome screen with all
the user(s) that has/have passwords on them), just reboot the computer
and hit F8 as it is starting again and boot into safe
mode and log in as Administrator with your new password. Then from there
go to Start > Control Panel> User Profile> and click on the user and
remove the password (you can also add a new one to the user).
Then Restart the computer and there you have it. NO
MORE PASSWORD on your user.
