Hi,

We have just upgraded our infrastructure from an NT 4
environment to a Windows 2003 AD environment running in
mixed mode.

Is a Windows 2000 machine with the admin pack for Windows
2000 installed able to managed a Windows 2003 Active
Directory environment or will this cause issues?

Regards,
Sung

The Adminpak.msi for Windows 2000 can be used to administer a Windows
2003 Server but you will be missing certain functionality, such as, drag
and drop, batch modifications, the ability to create Cross Forest Trusts
and so on. i.e.. the new features incorporated into Windows 2003. But
for general administration, such as, creating users groups and OU's,
forcing replication, creating sites, there will be no problem.

You can only install the Adminpak.msi for Windows 2003 on XP (SP1) and
Windows Server 2003 computers. It also can be used to administer Windows
2000 servers but with some limitations.

You could enable Terminal Services on your servers with the correct
tools installed on each of them and TS to them for administration
purposes. That can be done from any TS client regardless of the
operating system.
