I have a PIM on my system that synchs with my Palm PDA. Or should. I
can run the PIM just fine from my usualy identity, but when I try to
synch, it tells me I don't have permission to install hardware. And
when I log on as administrator, and try to open the app, it tells me it
can't find the data it's looking for in the registry. Seems like most
everything I try to do in Win2000 is Catch-22. Does anyone know if
there's a way around this? I'd prefer not to have to boot as an admin
just to synch my PDA. Is there a way to make it so I can synch my Palm
as a user?

Thanks in advance!

Apply admin rights to your normal account?

Steve,
Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure how to do that, though I could
probably figure it out, and might go that way just to get things up and
running. But I understand that if I do that, it makes it easier for
someone to get full access to my computer through the internet and do
very bad things to me. Is there a safer way to allow my to synch my
PDA?
Thanks again,
Dave.

Log on as administrator
right click My Computer
select Manage
select Local Users and groups
select groups
open Administrators group
add your personal account to it
you personal account is now admin enabled

if you're that worried about security then log in with your now admin rights
personal account add the hardware & software then reverse the above process
to remove admin rights from you account and see whether it still works ok
for you.

Thanks Steve!
After I replied to you, it occurred to me that I might be able to give
myself admin rights, synch the first time, and that after that, Windoze
might not see it as an install. So I did what you suggested above and
voila! It works great.

Thanks for being patient.

Dave.
