I hope this is the correct group. I did a search and could not find what I
was looking for.

I used to be able to adjust the volume on my laptop speakers with the FN and
up/down arrows, but now I can't. I tried to figure out how to configure the
buttons, but I don't want to screw anything else up.

Help please.

Are you using Vista? If you recently upgraded from XP then you also need
the Vista drivers and utilities from the manufacturer before all your keys
will function as before. You don't describe when you first saw this problem
or anything about your system so I can't tell what's going on.

Ok, sorry. I didn't know I needed to give background info.
Purchased laptop in September and Vista came with it. I noticed that I had
to adjust my volume by clicking on the volume icon a couple of days ago after
I installed a webcam.

Details are necessary, of course. Have you tried uninstalling the webcam to
see if the webcam software is somehow related? I know that's a hassle, but
I always investigate starting with the last thing I did before the problem
occurred.

No, I had not tried uninstalling the webcam. Hadn't even thought of that.
I will do that and let you know how it turns out.
Thanks Colin!

You're welcome. Good hunting!

I tried uninstalling the webcam and restarting the computer...

It now works! Thank you so much!
How do I now reinstall the webcam without it messing up my FN/volume?

I don't use a webcam, but your next steps probably should be:

First, go to the manufacturer's website and see if you have the latest
drivers and software for Vista. Also see if there is a user forum there.

Second, there are a lot of webcam threads in this newsgroup. Others are
having issues too. Scroll down and read the threads to see if your question
is already answered.

Post back with the results.
