I have been playing around with a Sapphire X1650pro and a Gigabyte
7600GS using the component out on a 27" TV for my arcade cabinet.
After lots of help from this group, I got my Sapphire card working
pretty well. I then un-installed it and installed the 7600GS and set
it up after many hours. Well I was very dissapointed in the TV out
quality compared to the Radeon card. The Nvidia just looked dull, the
colors were all washed out. I tried setting it up with all types of
settings, and nothing looked good. And the text was not very sharp
either.
So I am 100% usng a Radeon card. It's quality is so much better on a
TV using component out than the Nvidia card. The colors are so bright
and the text is very readible, even the tiny text in some of the PC
games look good.
Couple things I wanted to try and figure out with the X1650 pro that I
am struggling with.
1. The screen size is just a tad to large. It is cutting off on all
4 sides. Though when I start a game like Tiger Woods 2007, it seems
to re-adjust itself and the game looks perfect. But when going back
into windows, or running my emulator, the image is cut off.
I am using the latest Catalyst 7.1, and since I am using the component
out, there are no TV settings that allow me to adjust the screen size
or postion. Any ideas on what to do?
2. I have a pair of Act-Labs light guns that are designed to be used
with a TV and the S-Video output. The way they work is that each gun
first plugs into the S-video output, then the S-video cable to the TV
plugs in last (they are all stacked on top of each other). Now that I
am using component out, I can't run the guns in front of the TV signal
anymore. I was thinking of maybe building a custom box that took the
4 pins I need, ran them through the guns, then send them back to the s-
video to component out cable. I would leave the other 3 pins going
straight through. I'll build one and test it out.
3. It would be great to get the POST to display while using component
out. I know it can be done since I've seen it work by using a mix
match of hardware (7600GS adapter box). But I just haven't been able
to get it to work once the drivers are loaded with this other adapter
box. I've been told that this is just how the Radeon cards work, but
mabye there is a tweak or something I can do.
Anyway, if I could get these things worked out, this would be the
perfect video card of all time. The quality is great, and I know
Radeon is very reliable. It's just my custom preferences that would
make it perfect for my application.
Thanks again for everyones help in this newsgroup.
