Once I reinstalled XP and had no programs installed it was
very quick. After loading about 5 programs and peripheral
drivers it runs alot slower. Programs installed include
(Easy CD Creator 5, Kaaza, WinMX, Office XP) and drivers
for my printer and scanner were installed. Now when the
PC starts up the hard drive consistently works for about 5
minutes or so. I have disabled everything at start up via
(MSCONFIG) and it still loads up slowly. I must wait
minutes before opening a program.

I am using a PIII 933 processor on 650 MB SDRAM so
hardware shouldn't be an issue. What could the problem
be. Should I increase my page file size? I assume it is
XP standard size now. Also I have 2 physical hard disks.
C drive (30GB) for Windows and D drive (120GB) for music
etc. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. I
also did a virus check with nothing detected.

Kazaa loads a huge amount of spyware onto a pc, and if you try to eliminate
it, Kazaa is disabled.. this may apply to Winmx also.. uninstall Kazaa and
Winmx, go to www.lavasoftusa.com and www.pchell.com .. download Adaware from
Lavasoft, and use info from PCHell to eliminate anything that Adaware
doesn't touch.. then see what improvement in speed removal of Kazaa and
Winmx makes.. it will be for you to decide whether installation of Kazaa
particularly is worth slowing down your pc and leaving yourself open to
every virus and piece of tracking software available.. good luck..

There are a couple sites that talk about speeding up bootup and operating XP
The ones that I have used some recommendations from are

Page size was one of the things that I changed in my system. With two har
drives, you have added flexibility. One thing for sure is to change you
settings to a fixed page file size instead of Windows controlled page size. Th
claim is that the system is slowed down by Windows resizing the pag
file as opposed to a fixed file size. A couple of the sites give some guidleine
as to how big to make the page file

I have seen a lot of speed improvement, but I still would like to see it a bit faster
I have a 1 GB memory card on the way to add to the 512 MB card aread
installed. I am running a P4 2.6 GHz system. With the extra memory, I pla
to eliminate the page file and use the RAM memory alone for the system

Good Luck!!
