Windows Movie Maker does not seem to have the ability to adjust the
brightness or contrast of the captured video. Is this correct, or am I
missing a function in the software. Other simple video software does seem to
have this capability as editing is done.

It has a brightness effect that you can apply 1 or up to 6 times on the same
clip.... it's a basic one that doesn't do the more complex 'levels'
adjustment of Premiere or VirtualDub.

The "Creating Custom Effects and Transitions in Windows Movie Maker" page in
the MSDN explains creating one's own XML for effects and transitions.

I have taken copied samples and created the XML txt files under 'Movie
Maker' and they operate, but when the 'contrast' parameter is changed
("Contrast adjustment shifts the range of each color channel around a
midpoint. These values should be greater than or equal to zero, and are
usually around 1.0.", and negative values were tried, also) there is no
effect. What is not happening here?

The simple answer is that the contrast effect is broken. It should have
accepted values more than 1.0 to increase contrast but it doesn't. However
the values less than 1.0 work.

I am with Joeb.... is there a simple way to increase the brightness.
nothing too difficult please. dan
