I have encountered a problem where DIP version 10/2006 does not read from
folders hosted on drive volumes greater that "E:\".

I have an external hard drive that is mounted on drive volume "S:\" which
has the folder s:\digitalpics. When I try to add this folder to the Picture
Library it adds it incorrectly as "e:\digitalpics".

1. Add S:\digitalpics

<< OLE Object: Picture (Device Independent Bitmap) >>

2. File Browse reads the s:\digitalpics ok

<< OLE Object: Picture (Device Independent Bitmap) >>

3. DIP 2006 incorrectly indexes it using the e:\digitalpics path.

<< OLE Object: Picture (Device Independent Bitmap) >>

I'll research this issue and let you
know what I find.

But first I need to know exactly which
version you're using. 2006 would be
version 11. You can verify the version
by going to...Help / About.

Ok, I'm assuming you're running version 11...
try the following steps...

Open your Library and go to...Import /
Import From A Device...does your external
hard drive show up as a removable device?

If it shows up...select it and click OK.

This will open your "Import Pictures And
Videos" Wizard.

Tick..."Catalog them in Digital Image Library,
but leave them in their current position" / Next.

This should add, "Removable Media View" to
your...View By / Folder...pane. And it should
be identified with the correct drive letter.

John, I experienced the problem using version 10 and 11.

I will try your recommended steps tomorrow when I have my USB drive and let
you know how I go.

Hi John:

The sequence I am using is as follows:

1. Windows XP is started and I insert the USB cable to my external HDD.
2. XP detects the USB device and it appears in "My Computer" as the "S:\"
volume
3. Digital Image Library 2006 is started
4. File->Import Pictures and Videos is selected
5. A "Import Pictures and Videos" dialog appears
6. The device is not listed
7. Build is V11.0.422.0

Under control panel->administrative tools->computer
management->storage->disk management I can relabel this to "E:" or "D:" and
it appears to work ok.

Any ideas appreciated -- even if its acknowledge its repeatable at your end!

Rich
