address suggestions list: where is it?

Though I often clear the typed URLs list (that itself seems to have a mind
of its own as to what goes on it!), as soon as I start typing, a handy list
of 'suggestions' pops up.

Where is this list held?
What is its proper name?
Can I edit it and clear it?
Can I get it to show as an alternative to the 'drop down' list as it often
includes addresses that I have forgotten?

Regards,

S

Hello,
Where is this list held?
In Protected Storage, I think. Not sure about this.
What is its proper name? Autocomplete

Can I edit it and clear it?
Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete > (uncheck
web addresses) > OK
Can I get it to show as an alternative to the 'drop down' list as it often
includes addresses that I have forgotten?
Have you tried looking at the History? You can sort by site. Hit Ctrl+H in
IE to show History

Thanks for the helpful links Singapore.

The kb article is helpful in giving me the dodge of using the down arrow, in
an empty field, to open the list before typing anything, but I notice that,
though there are instructions for deleting individual items from forms, this
does not work for the address bar in IE.

Still a bit vague as to the difference between 'Autocomplete' and 'Inline
Autocomplete', but you have enabled me to access was I was looking for in
this instance none the less - it's much quicker to access the 'down arrow'
list than to trawl through History or favourite's - so cheers for that.

Not convinced that clearing history clears the 'down arrow' list, but as I
don't want to clear everything from this, or turn off autocomplete
altogether, I'll leave well enough alone for now.

S
