Always thought when I type first letter of an address and it shows up, it
was linked to address book
after clean install I find history gone
any way of exporting this next time?

It's not linked to your address book. It's a separate .nk2 file. See http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm for file locations.

What you are describing is autocompletion. This is a cache of recently used
names. These articles will tell you a bit more about it, some of the quirky
behaviour etc!
