When I enter a new name in my address book, using the "Full Name"
box, and select Last Name, first in the "File as" box. It still
files First Name first. I can use a "work around" by putting a "last
name first" entry only in the last name line of the Full Name box.
Is their something I am doing wrong?

First of all, I hope you are not entering anything in the address book view.
That view is not intended for data entry or editing. I trust you are
actually using the Contacts Folder and Contacts Record for that purpose.
Confirm that you are.
Next, state you Outlook version and the format you have set for the Full
Name field (not the File As field). If you don't know, look. I suspect you
will find your answer there.

Thanks for your reply. I am a novice with Outlook but I will try to answer
your questions. First I must explain that I have two recent Dell computers.
The address book is working right on one and wrong on the other. That tells
me that there is a setup somewhere to correct the problem. I am using
Outlook 2003.

I open the address book, click on new entry . Next I click New Contact and
get the screen I am talking about. I click Save and Close and then save in
Contacts. Before I close, everything looks fine. "File as" shows Last,
First. But when I open the address book, the entry is filed under the First
Name. I do exactly the same in both computers. One files properly and the
other does not.

To repeat: you never use the address book view to enter any data. Only use
the Contacts Folder for that. Doing otherwise can cause the inconsistent
results your are seeing.
The rest we cannot solve until you state exactly in what field you are
entering the name elements and how you configured your File As... and Full
Names fields. If you don't know look here:
Tools > Options > Preferences > Contact Options...

NEVER add a contact using the Address Book interface. The "Address Book" in
Outlook doesn't contain any data. Always open a Contacts folder and click
New to add a contact.
