Outlook used to show the address book listing sorted in order by last name -
but after reinstalling Windows and all my software to clear up problems on
the computer Outlook now lists the address book in order of first names.

How do I get address book to list names in order of last name first and
first name second ?

By default names are sorted by "first name, last name". If you want to
change this to "last name, first name" do the following;

Go to Control Panel-> Mail-> E-mail Accounts-> View or change existing
directories or address books-> select Outlook Address Book-> Change.

At the bottom you can set the way the names are sorted.

Do you know how I can sort the Address Book by "last name, first name" without the person's Company name appearing

The default "first name, last name" setting is actually the "subject" field in Outlook Contacts, which consists of the Contact "first name" and last name" fields

The alternative "last name, first name" setting is actually the "file as" field in Contacts. This means that if the "file as" setting for a contact is "Smith, John (Microsoft Inc.)", then this is what will appear in the Address Book. The implication is that an email "to" line will read "Smith, John (Microsoft Inc)"

What I would like to do is to have the "last name, first name" setting in Address Book give just those details, and not list the Company name, even if this is included in the Contact "file as" setting. Can I do this? (I use Outlook 97 8.04; would an upgrade to Outlook 98 solve this problem?

Help would be appreciated! Thanks.

I don't recall seeing this in Outlook 98 (can't remember if I entered a
Company name for a contact at the time either)
