Address book in Outlook 2002 SP2 is not in last name order

I recently update Office XP Outlook 2002 with the SP2 upgrade. When I open
the contacts with the address book icon form the top of the page, some
contacts are shown First name last name and others are shown last name first
name!? What can be done to correct this problem?

Examine the File As field for each of the Contacts that displays
differently.
How did you set the sort order for the Outlook Address Book?

Thanks Russ, I honestly forgot to check the Tools_>Options->Contacts Options
where the default "Full Name" order resides. That solved the alphabetical
problem. When I examine the "File As" field for each of the names in
question, that information is generally set to Firstname, Lastname order.
Whenever I have multiple entries for a friend, there are usually multiple
name entries created by this application? For example, if I add a second
e-mail address there is another physical entry created for that second
entry!? Any clues would be appreciated. Thanks again. . . Tom J

You are confusing me. I asked you nothing about the Full Name field. I was
asking you about the File As field and whether you had configured the
Outlook Address Book to sort by the File As field or by the First Name
field. Therein will lie the answer to your first problem.
Now you are asking a new unrelated question about additional email
addresses. The additional entries are being created where? In the Contacts
Folder? In the Address Book? The latter would be the expected and desired
behavior. How else would you be able to select which address you want to use
if they are not presented to you separately?

Well let's backup The "File As:" field is displayed to me when I open a
contact entry to either Add or Change some context information. The default
"Full Name" order is shown when I go to "Tools->Options->Contacts
Options" I can't get to Outlook Address book anything because Outlook 2002
does not allow access to this option. At least this is what I am reminded of
every time the option between Contacts and Address book are presented. I am
not sure where to even find the "File As:" option for Outlook Address Book.
You made a statement about "examining the File As field for each of the
Contacts that displays differently?" That's what I was doing. I got
off-track because I found that the Contacts Options has a check box for
"Check for duplicate contacts" and I thought that this flag was defeating
the purpose.
Thanks in advance . . . Tom J.

The settings for configuring the File As... field is in the same place as
the settings for configuring the Full Name field. If you found one, you must
have found the other: Tools > Options > Preferences> Contact Options.

All versions of Outlook allow you to configure the sort order of the Outlook
Address Book. In your version, go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or
change existing directories or address books > Outlook Address Book >
Change. > Set your sort order there
