Yesterday I accidentally closed my address book. I can't find the way to display it as open. Where's the default setting for this?

To which address book and which email software might you be referring?

Are you wondering how to display your personal address
book as the default address book? Or do you want Outlook
to check names in your personal address book first, before
checking against a Global Address Book?

Either of these things (and more) can be found by going
into the Address Book (either via the icon on the toolbar
or through the Tools menu --> Address Book), and once
inside the Address book choose Tools --> Options. Look
around in there.

In Outlook, below the folders display on the left hand side as I am reading email, I had my Outlook address book open so I could just click on an address to start a New Message. I must have accidentally concealed it.

You're getting warmer.
State your Outlook version and view. This does not sound like Outlook to me.
Perhaps you are talking about Outlook Express, in which case you are in the
wrong group. Include the rest of the message when you post.

I just want to display the address book all the time...no Global anything. I tried the suggestion to go to Tools in the Address Book but there was no "Options" alternative. I am running Office XP. Thanks.

You're right. It is Outlook Express. Folders view, I guess you would call it. So where do I go to get information on this? I just want my Outlook Address Book to pop up in the left column when I check my email. Thanks.

View > Layout...
This is a group to support Outlook from the Office group of programs.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and is a quite different
program despite its similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
outlook express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x

A good website for information on OE is:
