Address Book disappears when *.pst file is copied

I have to travel overnight frequently, and when I do, I copy my *.pst files
from my desktop machine to my laptop, so that I can continue to send and
receive e-mail into the same folders and files. When I return, I reverse
the process. When I copy the files from the desktop to the notebook, and
then run Outlook (2003) on the notebook, my Address Book listings are gone.
The Contacts list (from which the Address Book listings are derived, or at
least so I thought) are still there, but the Address Book listings that come
up when I click the "To:" button are not found. How do I get the whole
shebang to transfer when I copy the files?

You may need to install the Outlook Address Book Service on the laptop.
Tools->email accounts->directories->view or change. If the address book
service is not installed, back up one step and install it. You may also
need to right click on the contacts folder and under its properties, ensure
that is enabled as an Address Book.

Okay, I did that. The Outlook Address Book Service had been installed, but
the Contacts folder had not been enabled as an Address Book. Checking the
box fixed that problem. Now, when I click on the "To:" button in a blank
e-mail message, I get a blank address list, as it is trying to draw listings
from "Accounts." (whatever that is) In the drop-down listing, there is the
following:

Outlook Address Book
Accounts
Business Contacts
Contacts
Contacts
Contacts

Yes, that's right, THREE Contacts folders, even though I can find only one
Contacts folder in the folder listing. It appears that I will have to
switch to the third Contacts folder manually every time I want to address a
message. Is there any way to get rid of the two extra (apparently empty)
Contacts folders, and have it default to the one where the e-mail addresses
reside?

Go back to the dialog and remove the extra contacts folders.
