Address Book/Contacts folder Problems

This upgrade from O2K ro O2K2 has proven to be my most problematic upgrade
ecver :-(

Every time I look around, there is something else that doesn't work the way
it used to (probably because of something *I* am doing wrong, but...)

When I type a "Send to:" address it does not autocomplete. I thought the
autocompletions flag was off, but no. It seems that although ALL my
contacts info is in the "Contacts" Folder, it wasn't used by O2K2. I
searched the help and found that I had to check the flag to display the
contacts folder, etc.. So, now, I can type the name in the "TO:" field,
then click on the "Check Names" toolbar Icon, then change the "Show Names
From" to Contacts, and then search for the correct receipient address.
Plus, I get two entries named contacts, in the pull down list, and I have to
remember which one is the correct one to select. The other one is blank.

What have I messed up? Did I install it in the wrong mode? And, how would
I go about changing that?

Working as designed. Autocomplete does not use your Contacts. It uses a
cache of names you must first populate by sending messages.

You can remove the invalid reference to a Contacts Folder in the Outlook
Address book here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change.

As designed ??

It wasn't just the Autocomplete, which is not cached, I understand. The
"Check Names" icon fails, it opens a dialog, it tells me "No Suggestions", I
click on "Show More Names", It tells me "No Entries in this Address Book",
then I have to select Contacts2 (Contacts is empty), and then find the
address I want.

I sure hope that wasn't by design ;-) I guess I was hoping that some of
these settings would be transparent whan upgrading from O2K.

In any case, I appreciate the info about deleting the erroneous, empty,
Contacts entry, and will try to figure out how to tell it to use my Contacts
folder insted of the Outlook Address Book.

Thanks.

Of course that part wasn't by design. Your Outlook Address Book was
configured incorrectly. I told you how to fix it already.

And I aknowledged and appreciated the help. Sorry if I didn't make that
clear :-( In this impersonal medium, we sometimes fail to express our
appreciation. Once, again, thanks.

I thing you are right, though, The outlook Address Book, which was working
as intended in O2K for 2-3 years, somehow got configured incorrectly during
the upgrade to O2K2. That's the point I was trying to make. The funny
thing is that there was no prompt, or any sort of user confirmation to
configure it, or reconfigure it during the upgrade. Whatever corruption
took place was fully automated, thatk God ; -)

Upgrades from Outlook 2002 in IMO mode were especially problematic. Many
unique IMO settings which are no longer valid in higher versions are carried
over and cause trouble.
For anyone upgrading in-place from IMO we recommend starting over with a
brand new profile after the upgrade to get rid of these settings.

I meant upgrades from Outlook 2000 in IMO mode. Outlook 2002 only has one
mode.
