Having this same problem. If I type in a site like,
www.microsoft.com IE just sits there. It used to add
the http:// and go right to the site. I have search from
address bar enabled. It is driving me up the wall.

Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"
also see the following values:
"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"
