hi guys. im having a problem with internet explorerer all of the sudden.
recently it stopped letting me go to a webpage by typing it in the address
bar and hitting enter or 'go'. it just does nothing. in order to go to a
webpage i need to send myself an email with a link or use my favorites. any
ideas? thanks a lot for your time :)

Thanks for the reply, alas, I don't use IE, at least very seldom. But, it
seems that for those following the thread, those that come across it may
benefit from the solution.
But, I do appreciate your fast response, Maurice N, :)

Ivee,

If "you" are having a problem with IE, and you applied windows update
KB908531,
then see "Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you
install security update MS06-015"

If still stuck with a non-functional Internet Explorer, {and you have reviewed the 2 MS articles noted below) , then consider using Control Panel's Add or Remove programs, and remove update for 908351.

To remove windows update KB908531, do the following:

Go to Control Panel, then select "Add or Remove Programs".

Be sure the "Change or Remove Programs" is active / highlighted (at top left of window).

Then look at "Show updates" checkbox (at top). Make sure it is selected (ticked).

Once the display is populated, scroll down to "Security Update for Windows XP (KB908531)". It should be near the bottom of the list.

Click on that item. You'll see a Remove button. Click on it if you wish to have it removed.

** Before you use Add-Remove Programs, be very sure you close all your open user programs (after saving any unsaved work). After this change takes effect, and IF this does not ask for a restart, then you should do a logoff and restart of Windows.

ALSO:
Tweak your settings for Automatic Updates:
I'd advise, if you are using automatic updates, you configure it to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them". e.g. do not have it on "full auto".

To get to your settings, highlight / single click My Computer on your desktop > do a RIGHT-Click > select Properties.
Then click on the Automatic Updates tab.

Thanks for the help. I used a third-party fix, and I am OK now.
