Hi All!

I added the Address Bar to my taskbar (Right-Click on taskbar, choose Toolbars, and then click Address).

When I type the name of an executable, such as "calc", "mspaint" or "cmd", it most of the time opens the right application; however, it sometimes adds "http://" in front of what I typed, and tries to open a Web Page.

What causes Windows to decide whether to open a web page or an application?

Thanks in advance for your help

This is not exactly what I was looking for... I'm wondering why in some cases, Windows considers what you type as an executable file, and in other circumstances, it takes it as an URL?

check your settings under tools - options - advanced tab.
look at the browser and search settings and make sure
they are what you want set.

click ? and click listing for more info on the listing
entry. or right-click the entry for what's this option.

It depends on how the Address Bar is configured in Internet Options. If you
have "Search from the address bar" or "Autocomplete" options enabled and you
enter something that is not recognized by the system, it will try to search
the web for information on the entry.

Give us an example of something you entered that shows this behavior.
