Address bar icon corrupted for http moniker

I have a bunch of terminal servers running WS03 SP2 and IE 6. When users use
IE, the icon next to the url moniker appears as broken, instead of the little
blue "e", but only when using http. When the url is using https the icon is
not broken.

This only happens on some servers not all. All users have roaming profiles,
so the problem appears to be server-specific, rather than user specific. If
I log in as and Admin account without a roaming profile I get the same issue.

As Admin, I have access to select the Programs page, which is disable for
normal users. If I go it and check the box that causes IE to detect if it is
the default browser and select Yes when it prompts me, the icons come back.

any idea?

Cheers,
Jeremy.

Just an addendum to this. The activity described below fixes it for ALL
users of the box, not just the Admin user.

Go to File Types on the "broken" machine and check out the icon used for the
URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol file type. It will have None for the
extension and should be near the top of the file type list. It should be
the same as the one just below for URL:Hyptertext Transfer Protocol with
Privacy (https) file type. Click on the file type to change, click Advanced
then click Change Icon.

Thanks Jon. This is certainly the case. Unfortunately the non-Admin users
don't haev the rights to change this. Any idea why it would revert back to
being fixed for all users on the server just by resetting IE to be the
default broswer for a single Admin user on the box?
