Hi

I am running XP Home with IE6 on a P4 2.6 system. Something has greyed
out the address bar of IE 6, whilest I was browsing a couple of
freeware web sites.

View/ Toolbars/Address Bar doesn't work as the address bar remains
minimized and greyed out. I ran Norton AV 2003 , Ad-Aware SE, Spybot
search and Destroy and Hijack this. None of these programs found
anything on my system.

I managed to restore the Address Bar by installing SP2 for XP.

Any ideas on what may have caused this problem or how to fix it if it
happens again would be apprieciated.

Cheers Mark

I tried firefox for a while but finally, begrudgingly went back to the MS
product. The reason? When I did want popups they seemed to be mis-handled.
They would attempt to open in a new tab and come up blank. Every time,
without exception! Figured this may be gotten around somewhere in the
configuration but could not find it.

Which version did you try? Have you tried the recently released V1.0 or
even one of the more recent nightlies? I don't experience the problem you
describe, maybe it was a bug which has now been fixed...

Tried the latest version as of about 3 weeks ago (1.0 I think). Never tried
the nightlies, too bleeding edge for me.

I've never had a problem either. If there is a site you need to do
popups, add it to
Tools > Web Features > Allowed Sites [next to "Block popups"]

Don't pick the one next to "Allow to install software" <g>

Getting back to the original question, any ideas?????

By the way, if it was up to me I'd install firefox on this Computer.
But for the sake of a little household peace, I leave things alone!
