I have tried everything to fix it. I've cleared the history and typed in a
ton of addresses. It's almost like the arrow is disabled. Someone please
help! Thanks.

Hi fmz :-)

Try the following and see if it helps. If not, then you have a some form of
malware on your system:

First:

In order to restore you default Search functions, download and run the
program below. You will have to redo any customized features you may have
added afterward.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG

or...

Resets all the IE functions - for windows, hangups,

Start> Run> Paste this
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll

and then do the same with each one of the following..

regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

or.....open an ms-dos prompt window and type the following hitting enter
after each line.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

(It works for Windows XP pro and IE6.)

If that does not rsolve the problem, then follow all instructions here
carefully to clean your system:

Hope this helps

Thanks for the idea! I did try the registry fix and that didn't work. I
reran Ad-aware, installed Spyware Blaster and Spybot and ran them several
times. No luck. I ran HiJack This and posted the log in the Spyware Info
Forum. I am waiting to see if anyone can help. Do you have any other ideas
for me to try? I really appreciate your help. :-)

The only thing I can suggest at this point, not knowing what the outcome of
the HJT log analysis might be, would be to to clean the History folder.
This would mean that you would lose the links you might want to keep.
However, you can make a backup copy the History folder in your User folder,
or whichever one is the problem folder, and save it with OLD added to the
end of it and your files will be kept safe. That way, in case the cleaning
of the History file did not work you can simply delete the current History
folder, remove the OLD from the backup copy, and your files will be
restored. It is also possible that your Histosry folder has become corrupted
and you need to recreate a new one. I'll give you the instructions for both
of these steps:

To tatally clean your Hisotry folder, download, install and run either of
the programs below:

CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/
or
http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144-10315544.html

If the above does not resolve the problem, then try the following:

Delete the History folder and index.dat:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
When you reboot, a new History folder will be created for you.

I would suggest that you keep a backup copy of the History folder until
after you hear from the HJT log experts.

Hope this helps :-)
