Hi,

I aam trying to install an additional domain controller
on windows 2000, however in the AD installation wizard I
keep recieving the error that my domain cannot be found,
despite the fact that I can see it in my network places.

any suggestions?

This sounds like a DNS issue. Ensure that the server you are trying to
promote is pointed only to your internal DNS server for resolution. On that
DNS server, check that your SOA, NS and A records are all correctly
configured.

Thanks, I have checked all that but it still does not
work, (see records below). Any other suggestions?
thanks,

;
; Database file 84.184.10.in-addr.arpa.dns for
84.184.10.in-addr.arpa zone.
; Zone version: 2

600 ; retry
86400 ; expire
3600 ) ; minimum TTL

@ IN NS zeus.ambrosia.com.
@ IN NS hera.ambrosia.com.

zeus IN A 10.184.84.178
hera IN A 10.184.84.174

178 PTR zeus.ambrosia.com.
174 PTR hera.ambrosia.com.

You are missing what Simon was telling you. You have to
run an internal DNS on a AD Domain controller for other
servers to join the domain. That DNS server must be
populated with the Microsoft services (It will do it
automatically once installed correctly on a Domain
Controller) The other server trying to join the domain
must have the DNS entry of the internal DNS server.
