Adding web content to the desktop

Back in the days of XP, I could go to the Desktop tab under the Display
Properties and choose to add new web content to the desktop, which I used to
add an animated gif that I could then place anywhere on the desktop. I can't
seem to find any way to do this in Vista. Is this a lost feature?

This was done with Active Desktop in earlier MS operating systems.
Active Desktop is not available in Vista.

So, is there any other way around it to add an animated gif to my desktop? Or
is there some way to add it to that new sidebar gadget thingy?

Since Active Desktop was problematic at best and a vector for infection
at worst, I doubt there is any way to do what you want natively. You
might look at third-party "eye candy" solutions - check on
www.wincustomize.com.

As for the Sidebar gadgets, there are apparently hundreds of them. Click
on the Sidebar configuration and you'll see a link to get new gadgets.
See if anyone has written one you like. Or you could see if Yahoo
Gadgets offers what you want and runs on Vista. I like Yahoo Gadgets but
I run them here on OS X so don't know about Vista.

Thanks, I'll look into it. All I wanted to do was put a little animated logo
on the desktop of all the training machines at work (I teach various software
workshops) of a guy banging his head off of a computer keyboard. I find it
rather amusing and oddly appropriate :) I've got it on all but one computer,
which is the newest one and is running Vista. All the others are running XP
or Windows 2000.
