Is there any way to add the degrees symbol to a
spreedsheet. I am trying to add in a temperature and
want to include the degree symbol.

Thank You.

Rick,

When typing in the cell hold down the Alt key and hit
0 1 7 6 then release the Alt key

If you need the temperatures in number form for calcualtions you will have to
add a Custom Format rather than in-cell editing.

Format>Cells>Custom. Select the 0 format and click in dialog box to edit.
Add your ALT + 0176 to get the degree symbol.

AFAIK, that's absolutely correct but I would mention that I have found it
useful to use autocorrect to insert the Centigrade (Celsius) and Fahrenheit
symbols in Word and Excel. My Choice is ~F and ~C.

Not sure how AutoCorrect would be used in this case. Could you elaborate
please.

You can add the F or C in the Custom Format also.

After adding the ALT + 0176 enter F or C so reads 0°F or 0°C

Gord,

I use the autocorrect as well. I think it works when you keep
you units in separate cells from you numbers.ie:

A B
5.432 °C

I have my auto correct set to recognize (o) as °. Then when you
type (o)C in your cell you get °C.

Thanks Dan

If don't need the number for calculation your method works fine in-cell or in
adjacent cell if number to be retained.

I'll stick to my Custom Format.

###.0(ALT + 0176)"F"

Steps...enter the ###.0 then on Numpad(gray keys) enter ALT + 0176 then "F"
and you're done.
