I have a DC and am in the process of setting up a secondary DC when I get to the starting of AD and go to configure the secondary DC it finds the domain, it finds the DNS name of the Primary DC but then the errors start and it will not communicate. How can I do this I am now a bit desperate as my primary DC is getting rather unstable and I need to transfer.

Thanks,

Gillian

Is DNS on the new machine pointing to the other DC?

Thanks for your reply Brian,

Yes the machine is pointing to the other DC. When I go
through the steps in AC to add the secondary Domain the
primary domain is showing in th explore, but that is as
far as I get. I get the following message, sorry if it is
not 100% right but the message comes up in Spanish and I
have translated it.

Cannot make comunication with domain "name" check that the
name of the domain DNS is written correctly. This
condition could be due to a problem of the searching of
the DNS. If this domain was recently created it could be
that it is not registered yet in the service of names of
the domain. etc.

In the DC in the DNS the domain is clearly visible and has
been running now for 3 years. I have checked every
possible permision on the primary DC and also on the new
machine. I can see the new server on the primary DC in
the network, so they are communicating.

I have solved the problem thanks, for now. Now I have the
next step to do. As we have an ADSL line the comunication
was trying outside of the domain as the DNS in the Dial-up
were for the ADSL connection and not the server.
