adding ram memory

vendor recommands using pc2100 for memory adds
because that is supposed to be mounted in computer.
friends say pc2700 is what i should add.

i think if i add the pc2700 it will only run at
pc2100 speed. where can i find what is really
mounted in the computer as far as this speed thing?

Ask the hardware vendor or manufacturer.
Check their web site for technical specs or technical support or FAQs

It might be on a sticker on one of the chips on the memory stick or it may
be in the code numbers on the stick, but ultimately go with what the vendor
recommends.
In many cases faster memory will work -but it just runs slower - but this
may not be the case with yours.

There are many mail order places you can get PC2100 from e.g
http://www.crucial.com/store/listModule.asp?module=DDR+PC2100&cat=RAM&package=allModules
