I have placed my video(and audio) clips on the timeline. I want to insert
PowerPoint slides at various points to replace the video for a few seconds
but I want the audio to continue without a break. Help, please, I am new to
this software.

In PowerPoint, use the "Save As" option to save selected files as .png.
Import the .png files as images and add to your timeline in Movie Maker.

And to address the audio.....

If the audio is included with the video clip...
drag another copy of the video clip to the
Audio/Music track and right click/mute the
original Audio track. This way the audio
will continue no matter how you split and
edit the Video track.

If the audio was a separate music file...
you already have it on the Audio/Music track
and it won't be a problem.

Info on splitting.....

Maybe something in the following
tutorial will work for you:

"Splitting A Clip In MM2.1"

Drag the video/audio clip to the
Timeline.

Play the video/audio by clicking the
"Play" button under the view screen.

You will see the Playback Indicator
(vertical line) advancing across the
timeline.

Click the "Pause" button at the point
where you wish to trim and type...
Ctrl+L or click the "Split" button at the
bottom of the view screen.
(you can also make adjustments by
dragging the Playback Indicator)

Make as many splits as you want and
remove any unwanted clips by right
click / delete.

Just split the video at the point you wish
to add the still shot. Then drag/drop
it into place.
