Am attempting to add identical 512MB ULT30215 184 pin DDR into the second
socket available on my Gigabyte motherboard, but the system won't recognise
it, or reboot succesfully.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Do both sticks work one at a time in either memory socket? How many sockets
are on the board?

Hi David, your question has produced the cure.
I have 2 slots ... I moved the stick to the 2nd socket and it worked and
rebooted successfully so I inserted the other stick in the 1st socket, and
the bios then recognised both sticks/sockets and rebooted succesfully. So,
that is cured, but I don't know why. Why?

Many thanks,

In addition to what Bob says, it could have been dirty contacts on either
the module or the socket. Inserting and removing them tends to clean them
out/off.
