I am building a computer and have an Asrock M255A motherboard in a Micro ATX
case. I am adding a bay mounted Flash Media card reader which is USB
connected. I have two option, using the USB pins on the motherboard or the
USB port on the case exterior. However, the case has two front USB ports
which connects to the the motherboard USB Header. My perferernce is to use
the motherboard connection and still maintian the two front USB ports. I
have check my catologs with no success for any type of adapter. Is there
such an adapter to piggyback additional USB conections on the existing
motherboard USB pins.At present, the front USB ports use all available USB
motherboard pins. For aesthetics, I would rather not run the optional USB
connection cable out to the rear of the case to the rear USB port. If
anyone has any information on extenders for motherboard USB connections or
other suggestion, I would be appreciative.

Regards,
Bill

I'd probably remove a expansion slot cover so the USB cable could run
through the interior of the case, out the back of the case and to a USB
connector. That way, only a few inches of the USB cable would be visible.
It won't hurt anything to leave one of the expansion slot covers off, won't
interfere with cooling or anything at all.

Another option is to TRY to find a PCI add-on USB card with pin headers for
optional USB dongles (like the pin connectors on the motherboard). Then you
could run your media reader off the expansion card, or run your other USB
ports off the expansion card. -Dave

Who'd see? My PC is a mess back there. IMO, You'd better use the rear
ports (if you can, with a connector specifically for media readers,
which may make one of the rear ports unavailable).

Now to use the motherboard header for the front connectors, you would
give up one of the ports, unless you use a hub or the media reader has
a passthrough. What I am getting at is you cannot passively split USB,
so to mainatin both front ports, you will have to give up a rear port,
one way or another.

Dave,
Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to find a USB card with internal
connections in the Cyberguys catalog. I think I will go this route. Again,
thanks.
