I am trying to learn FrontPage but I am having trouble getting a Hit counter
to display on my first practice site for my exam.
I have added the button but only the placholder shows.
eg.[hit counter]
What am I doing wrong?
Can anyone help me please?

You must publish the site to a server that has the FP extensions via FP's File Menu | Publish Web /
Site command to a URL that begins with http://

If you feel your current issue is a results of installing
a Service Pack or security update, please contact
Microsoft Product Support Services:
http://support.microsoft.com
If the problem can be shown to have been caused by a
security update, then there is usually no charge for the call.

hit counters require the page be uploaded to a server with the server
extensions enabled.

Thank you for your advice.
I have yet to publish anything as I am still only learning so I wanted to
see what the counter would look like on my own PC 1st.
I don't seem to have a server yet. What do I need to do?

If you are using WinXP Pro, you can install the IIS web server and FP server
extensions from add/remove programs microsoft.

The counter won't work on your local PC - as I said, it needs a web server
with the server extensions enabled.

The OP acknowledged what you said, Andrew. Then asked, "how do I get a
server?"

You should ask what O/S and then advise from there as to what is available
for testing on the local pc.
