Adding Hard Drive

I have 2 hard drives on my computer. The main one (let's call it C:\) has
the Windows XP OS and some basic data. I removed the 2nd one and want to
replace it with a bigger drive. What do I need to do, step by step? I
haven't done this since Windows 95/98 where I had to put the format and
command applications on a floppy disk.

Does WinXP recognize a new hard drive? Do I need to point it to the new
drive? Is it something I can do right in the OS after booting normally? Or,
do I have to still format and partition like the old days? What are the
steps? Thank you!!!

as long as you have the jumpers set correctly
and the bios recognizes it ok...
once windows boots up
just go into disk management and create your partition(s) , format and
assign drive letter

Once it is plugged in and Windows is booted you'll need to go into Disk
Management and format the drive (assuming it's brand new). Go to Start>Run
and type in diskmgmt.msc . Once the console opens look for the disk in the
bottom half of the screen. Right click on it and select Format. It will
walk you through the rest of the process.

Good Luck!

Install drive.

Verify BIOS sees same. If larger than 137Gb BIOS may not see full size - if
so check for BIOS update.

Start Windows. SP1 or 2 must be installed for drives larger than 137Gb.

Start > Run > diskmgmt.msc and partition/format new drive.
