I about inherit a web not created with FP. To publish it to my hd (so I can
update it) can I have the current host to install the extensions? Will this
induce any problems with the site or will it be invisible to current
visitors?

Thanks for any help/insight.

Yes the Host must install/enable the server extensions for your hosting
account and you would publish to your domain name (i.e.
http://www.yoursite.com ) using the http: method in Frontpage.

As to a site not initally created in FP all you need to do is open the "web"
in frontpage (File > Open > Web/Site), that is, the folder that the website
resides in on your hard drive. FP may add some files it requires and
convert the folder to a 'web' - but that's the way it works. The folder icon
changes to a yellow folder with an earth/globe image on it indicating a web
folder.

If the server extensions are enabled, you can open the site "live" and
publish the site *down* to your machine so you can work on it locally and
the republish any changed pages back to the server.

It is advisable for you read up on Frontpage in the Help files, and this
site http://www.frontpagewiz.com is a good starting tutorial site as well.
